The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) senatorial candidate for Oyo Central, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign from office over the rising wave of insecurity across the country.
Ajadi’s demand follows the abduction of 19 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. The victims were travelling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to their designated orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when gunmen intercepted their buses along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha, Imo State.
Condemning the attack as barbaric, Ajadi expressed outrage that young graduates answering the call to national service have become targets for criminal elements. Reports indicate that the abductors have demanded a ransom of ₦50 million for each victim, accumulating to an astronomical ₦950 million.
”It is ridiculous and unreasonable that corps members who are travelling to serve their motherland should be kidnapped,” Ajadi stated. He argued that if the federal administration under President Tinubu remains incapable of ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted youths and halting the nationwide security deterioration, the President should step down.
Furthermore, the APM stalwart urged President Tinubu to discard any ambitions of seeking re-election in the 2027 general elections, maintaining that the primary social contract of any government is the protection of lives and property.
Meanwhile, security forces have ramped up operations in Imo State, with police authorities confirming that the camp holding the abducted prospective corps members has been located as search-and-rescue efforts intensify.
