ADO-EKITI — Following the official declaration of the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State governorship election results, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has extended his warm congratulations to his counterpart, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on his sweeping victory at the polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026. Oyebanji secured a total of 319,224 votes, clearing all 16 local government areas in the state. He comfortably defeated his closest challengers, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes, and Ambassador Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who secured 12,872 votes.
The triumph marks a significant milestone in the political landscape of the Fountain of Knowledge, making Oyebanji the first incumbent governor in the history of Ekiti State to successfully win back-to-back re-election.
Reacting to the landslide victory through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the election outcome as a resounding endorsement of Oyebanji’s purposeful leadership and people-oriented policies. He noted that the decisive mandate reflects the deep confidence and trust reposed in him by the people of Ekiti State.
”This renewed mandate is a clear testament to the remarkable strides recorded by the Oyebanji administration during his first term,” Aiyedatiwa stated, pointing to key achievements in infrastructure development, economic growth, social welfare, and sustainable good governance.
The Ondo State Governor expressed absolute confidence that Oyebanji would use his second term to consolidate his previous developmental gains and further advance the prosperity of the state. He also commended the Ekiti electorate for their peaceful conduct, orderly alignment with the democratic process, and resilience despite isolated technical challenges with accreditation systems during Saturday’s exercise.
While wishing Oyebanji a successful second term, Governor Aiyedatiwa assured him of Ondo State’s continued collaboration and cross-border cooperation. He emphasized that both states remain committed to the collective pursuit of economic integration, progress, and security across the South-West region and Nigeria as a whole.
