Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued an urgent call to President Bola Tinubu, requesting immediate intervention to safeguard the integrity of the ongoing governorship election collation process.
The governor, who is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, expressed deep concern over reported attempts by “desperate and rejected politicians” to hijack or disrupt collation centres across the state. In a statement released Saturday evening, Adeleke urged the President to direct heads of security agencies—including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—to ensure a peaceful and transparent conclusion to the electoral process.
“It is imperative that you use your good office to issue a clear warning to the heads of security agencies deployed to protect the good people of Osun State and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process,” the governor stated. He further implored the President to reiterate his commitment to ensuring that the votes of Osun residents count and that the final outcome reflects the genuine choice of the electorate.
The alarm comes as collation continues across the state’s 30 local government areas. As of Saturday evening, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had uploaded over 76% of polling unit results to its Result Viewing (IReV) portal. Early data from the platform indicates that Governor Adeleke maintains a significant lead, with approximately 52.75% of the counted votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, trails with about 44.36%.
Despite the reported tensions and concerns over potential disruptions, voter participation has remained notable, with results from over 2,800 polling units already processed. As the state awaits the final official declaration from INEC, stakeholders and observers continue to monitor the collation process closely to ensure it remains free from interference and reflective of the will of the people.
