The Wuse Ward chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja has indefinitely suspended Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), citing serious anti-party activities and rule violations. Ward Chairman Kanayo Chukwu announced the decision at a stakeholders’ meeting, following a March 10, 2026, gathering attended by over 2,000 members. The suspension awaits higher-level ratification, though the national leadership has already nullified it.
Key Allegations Against the Senator
Accusations include confiscating the ward register, conducting parallel membership drives, chronic absenteeism at meetings, non-payment of dues, and insubordination to leaders. Chukwu stated a motion for suspension passed with a two-thirds executive majority after deliberation. The resolution was sent to AMAC Chairman Omale Sule, who pledged procedural review before escalating.
FCT ADC Chairman Clement Ehijiator confirmed receiving the report from a meeting initially focused on registrations. He assured constitutional scrutiny before national referral, amid a vote of confidence in his leadership. Kingibe, who defected from Labour Party to ADC in July 2025 citing internal crises, faces this amid FCT political frictions, including clashes with Minister Nyesom Wike.
ADC national leaders voided the ward’s action on March 12, deeming it unauthorized against a sitting senator. This underscores internal power struggles in the minor opposition party ahead of 2027 polls. Kingibe’s defection was strategic for re-election viability, but ward-level revolt signals deepening rifts.
