ABUJA – In a strategic move to position itself as the primary alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a high-powered, 50-member “Wise Men and Women Policy and Manifesto Committee.”
The committee, which boasts a heavy concentration of political heavyweights and intellectuals, is a clear signal of the party’s intent following its recent leadership realignment under National Chairman, Senator David Mark, GCON. The initiative aims to craft a “people-centered and forward-looking” blueprint for national governance ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
A Coalition of Experts
Leading the group is Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the former National Chairman of the APC and erstwhile Governor of Edo State. He is joined by renowned political economist Professor Pat Utomi, who serves as Deputy Chairman, and Salihu Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman, who takes the role of Secretary.
The 50-member list reads like a “Who’s Who” of Nigerian technocracy and political reform. Notable members include:
- Civil Society & Human Rights: Prof. Chidi Odinkalu and Yemi Adamolekun.
- Former Legislators & Governors: Sen. Gershon Bassey, Sen. J.J. Akpan Udo-Udeghe, and Simon Achuba.
- Technocrats & Academics: Prof. Sam Amadi, Dr. Usman Bugaje, and Prof. Remi Sonaiya.
Strategic National Renewal
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party emphasized that the committee’s mandate is to articulate a coherent policy direction that reflects the true aspirations of Nigerians.

”Nigeria’s challenges require ideas rooted in competence, integrity, and national consensus,” Abdullahi stated. “We are confident this committee will deliver a manifesto that speaks to the real needs of Nigerians across all regions and sectors.”
The ADC has recently seen a surge in its political profile following the 2025 entry of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the alignment of the “Obidient” movement. This committee is viewed as the intellectual engine room tasked with merging these diverse political interests into a single, formidable governing document.
Inauguration Details
The formal inauguration of the committee is scheduled for:
- Date: Monday, February 2, 2026
- Time: 12:00 Noon
- Venue: Conference Hall, ADC National Secretariat, Abuja.
The party has extended an invitation to all concerned stakeholders to witness what it describes as a pivotal step toward “national renewal.”
