
ACU Makes Bold Move, Unveils Endowment Foundation to Fund Scholarships, Innovation

In a move aimed at driving institutional growth through supporting scholarships, infrastructure and research, Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, has taken a significant step toward sustainable development with the official inauguration of the Ajayi Crowther University Development Endowment Foundation. Signaling a renewed commitment to academic excellence and institutional advancement.
The foundation was inaugurated on Thursday, 18th June 2026, at the University Council Chamber. Speaking during the ceremony, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Olutoyin Okeowo, described the event as “a bold and strategic move” in the university’s journey toward growth and development.
Dr. Okeowo emphasised that the primary purpose of the foundation is to mobilise resources to support the university’s overall development. He added that the foundation is expected to play a vital role in shaping the institution’s future through various intervention programmes.
The Pro-Chancellor noted that the move marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to the advancement of the university. He highlighted the foundation’s priority areas, which include scholarships, infrastructure, and research. Noting that the initiative aims to ensure that brilliant and deserving students have access to quality education regardless of financial constraints by providing scholarships and financial support.
He added that the foundation also seeks to facilitate the development of modern classrooms, digital learning facilities, and well-equipped laboratories to enhance the quality of teaching and learning. Additionally, promoting research and innovation is a key priority, as the foundation seeks to strengthen academic excellence and contribute to national development.
Dr. Okeowo reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maintaining its reputation as a faith-based institution grounded in strong moral and ethical values, noting that the institution has made remarkable progress over the years in both academic and infrastructural development.
Appreciating the Pro-Chancellor and the Endowment Committee members, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, acknowledged that the task before the team is critical and their mandate weighty. She described the committee members as “persons of character and integrity, ready to work as stewards for God’s given vision.”
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence in their capabilities and ability to mobilise people and resources for the university’s development. She promised that the university management would work transparently with the team and align with the institution’s strategic plans.
Members of the Development Endowment Foundation inaugurated include Barr. Olumide Sofowora SAN, Prof. Olufemi Peters, Dr. Olajire Abiodun, Dr. Bode Olajumoke, Prof. Dapo Afolabi, and Mr. Chudi Illoh. While the first three members were physically present at the University Council Chamber, the remaining three joined the inauguration online.
The official inauguration was conducted by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Williams Aladekungbe, Lord Bishop of Ibadan North Diocese of the Anglican Church. Following their inauguration, the members pledged their commitment to work for the progress of the university, describing the call as “an opportunity to serve God and humanity.”
A highlight of the event was the presentation of personal books by Prof. Olufemi Peters, which encompasses his personal experiences as former Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and insights on human development.
The Endowment Committee, University Council members, Management team, and other staff members proceeded on a facility tour of the Offa-Meta Campus and some locations at the Ajegunle Campus, including the St. Andrews Chapel.
The day concluded with a renewed commitment to the development of Ajayi Crowther University by the University Council, management, and the Endowment Foundation members.
