Indian police in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, publicly beat a man accused of murdering his live-in partner, Faizal Lakhani, with sticks at a bus stand where he allegedly thrashed the victim to death.
The footage, which spread widely online, has drawn mixed reactions, with some praising the action and others denouncing it as extrajudicial punishment.
Justice or Brutality?
ValidViewNetwork gathered that Indian police in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, publicly thrashed a man accused of beating his partner to death, drawing mixed reactions after footage of the flogging spread online.
The man, identified by police as Faizal Lakhani, was arrested in Bhavnagar, a town in Gujarat state.
Police took Lakhani on Friday, September 4, 2026, to the scene of the alleged crime to reconstruct the incident.
The Flogging
Videos show Lakhani’s arms restrained by ropes as a uniformed officer repeatedly struck his legs and buttocks with a bamboo baton.
He was also beaten on his feet inside a bus terminal.
“We beat him to set an example that crime against women will be taken seriously and nobody else dares to commit such a crime,” police officer D.P. Unadkat said.
“When we do this, they fear the police,” Unadkat said.
Mixed Reactions
Some social media users praised the beating, while others denounced the police officers’ actions, with several X users saying the man had yet to be found guilty of the crime.
Public parading and beatings of suspects by police are not uncommon in India, despite Supreme Court rulings prohibiting such treatment.
Bhavnagar police chief Nitesh Pandey told AFP: “I have nothing to comment”.
A Lesson for Nigerian Youths
This incident is a reminder that vigilante justice is not justice. The man had not been convicted, yet he was publicly flogged. The same people who applaud extrajudicial punishment will never allow their own families to be treated in such a manner.
Their families are protected.
For young Nigerians, the lesson is clear: the rule of law must prevail.
Demand due process. Reject extrajudicial punishment. And never forget that justice must be fair, not brutal.
