ABEOKUTA – Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered the immediate reconstruction of the Carwash–Moore Junction Road in Abeokuta South, reinforcing his administration’s “urban renewal” agenda for the Ogun State capital.
The Governor gave the directive on Thursday during the official commissioning of the newly completed Lantoro–Oke-Yidi–Isale Ake Junction Road. He described Abeokuta as the state’s “administrative and political heartbeat,” asserting that the city’s infrastructure must reflect its status through sustained and strategic investment.
The Carwash–Moore corridor, a vital link for commuters in the state capital, has long been a point of concern for residents. According to the Governor, the reconstruction will begin “without delay” to alleviate traffic congestion and bolster local economic activities.
”Our goal is to strengthen connectivity across the capital,” Abiodun stated. “The reconstruction of this corridor is a direct response to the needs of the people, ensuring that movement within Abeokuta South is seamless and supports the growing commercial demands of the area.”
The Governor revealed that infrastructure projects in the Ogun Central Senatorial District are not arbitrary but the result of a “participatory governance model.” He noted that traditional rulers, religious leaders, and market associations were consulted to prioritize roads with the highest socio-economic impact.
Key statistics from the Governor’s address include:
1.29 roads completed in Ogun Central over the last six years.
2.10 roads currently under construction in the district.
3.39 total projects slated for the zone in the current development cycle.
The newly inaugurated Lantoro–Oke-Yidi road serves as a prime example of this strategy. The route provides critical access to the Sacred Heart Hospital, the School of Nursing, and the Muslim Prayer Ground, while doubling as an essential bypass for major city traffic.
Stakeholder Commendations
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, emphasized that these projects are the fulfillment of campaign promises aimed at stimulating the local economy.
Adding royal weight to the occasion, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, praised the administration for focusing on roads that support health and education sectors. Similarly, the Chairman of Abeokuta South LG, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez, lauded the Governor’s commitment while appealing for further interventions on the Saje and Mokola axes to further enhance the quality of life for residents.
