MUKURWEINI, Kenya — True love, it seems, is well worth the wait. After more than six decades of companionship, raising a family, and watching their grandchildren grow, a 90-year-old Kenyan woman and her 95-year-old partner have finally celebrated their enduring bond with a white church wedding.
Tabitha Wangui Mbogo and Ibrahim Mbogo—who has been mistakenly referred to as “Daniel Njoroge” in recent viral internet posts—officially tied the knot at the Tambaya PCEA Church in Mukurweini, a town located about three hours northeast of Nairobi. The couple first met and fell in love in 1960. While they were already legally married under traditional Kikuyu custom and had built an entire lifetime together, the devout Christians decided it was time to formally exchange vows before the altar.
“We met and fell in love in 1960, do you hear?” the 95-year-old groom proudly told local reporters outside the church, reflecting on their 64-year journey as if it had only just begun. For their special day, Ibrahim looked sharp in a smart grey suit and silver tie, while his bride, Tabitha, radiated joy in a white hat paired with a cream brocade jacket draped over a crisp white dress.
The couple’s heartwarming story has recently captured global attention all over again, propelled by a playfully fabricated social media quote attributed to Tabitha. Viral internet pages jokingly claimed the bride explained her 64-year wait by saying, “Men change their minds too often. I had to make sure”.
In reality, the new bride’s actual advice to younger generations was grounded in mutual respect and grace. When asked the true secret to their remarkable longevity, Tabitha offered a profound message: “Women, you must respect your husbands; if you do that, then you will live as we have. Don’t do any wrong, and when you do, just apologise and seek forgiveness”.
Their historic walk down the aisle serves as a timeless reminder that love, commitment, and companionship truly know no age limit. Whether it takes a few months or 64 years, the Mbogos have proven that a lifelong commitment is always a milestone worth celebrating.
