A Delta Air Lines aircraft has collided with an Air Canada plane on a taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport, with no injuries reported among passengers or crew.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning as Delta Flight 7 was taxiing for departure and Air Canada Flight 785 was being towed towards its gate.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the Delta aircraft’s left wing clipped the horizontal stabiliser of the Air Canada aircraft at about 10:30 a.m. local time.
AIRCRAFT TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE
The Delta aircraft was carrying 275 customers and 15 crew members and was preparing to fly to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.
Air Canada said its aircraft had arrived from Toronto before the incident. Both aircraft were taken out of service for inspection and necessary repairs. No injuries were reported.
FAA INVESTIGATES
The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into the incident. The investigation is expected to establish how the two aircraft came into contact while moving on the airport surface.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the incident was less serious than an airborne collision, but it still raises operational questions about aircraft movement and ground safety at one of the world’s busiest airports.
