Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a permanent military base in the Bagudo Local Government Area following a wave of violent bandit incursions that left several dead and displaced local residents.
The governor made the pledge on Saturday during a high-level condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Adamu, to mourn the tragic killing of the Village Head of Lafagu and other community members caught in the recent raids.
Decisive Action Against Insecurity
Describing the onslaughts as barbaric, inhuman, and deeply disturbing, Governor Idris stressed that his administration will not compromise on the security of lives and property. He confirmed that coordinated arrangements with security forces are in advanced stages to completely flush out criminal elements operating in the border communities.
”I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected,” Governor Idris stated. “My government is working hard with the security agencies to ensure that the internally displaced persons return safely to their villages.”
Relief and Reassurance for Displaced Residents
As part of his itinerary, the governor inspected local Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps to evaluate living conditions and deliver direct support. He reassured the victims of the state’s total commitment to their welfare, safety, and eventual resettlement back to their ancestral homes.
Urging citizens to maintain law and order, Governor Idris cautioned against self-help measures and called for active community policing. He implored residents to maintain close cooperation with security operatives by sharing timely, credible intelligence concerning suspicious movements or criminal activities in their areas.
