IRAN EXECUTES MAN LINKED TO JANUARY PROTESTS

Iran has executed Siavash Jamshidi, a man convicted of offences linked to anti-government protests earlier this year.

Iran’s judiciary said Jamshidi was sentenced to death on charges including moharebeh, or “enmity against God”, after allegedly firing a weapon at security forces.

The judiciary also said he was convicted of conspiracy against national security.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the case comes amid continuing international scrutiny of Iran’s treatment of people prosecuted over the protests.

OTHER CHARGES

Iranian authorities said Jamshidi was also convicted of offences not directly related to the demonstrations. They included fraud, threats, theft and possession and carrying of an illegal military-grade weapon.

Other charges listed were complicity in kidnapping, threatening people with a weapon and intentional bodily harm.

WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE PROTESTS

The demonstrations began in December 2025 amid grievances over living costs and expanded significantly in January.

Iranian authorities said more than 3,000 people died during the unrest and blamed what they described as terrorist activity supported by foreign powers.

Foreign-based human-rights organisations have disputed parts of the government’s account and accused security forces of using force against protesters.

EXECUTIONS CONTINUE

Jamshidi’s execution follows other executions of people arrested during the protests.

Rights organisations have raised concerns about fair-trial protections and alleged torture and forced confessions.Iranian authorities maintain that those executed were convicted through the country’s judicial process.
