2027: I’m On The Ballot, Furious Sowore Fires Back At Donald Duke

​ABUJA — African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has firmly put to rest any doubts regarding his political future, declaring unequivocally that he is running for president in 2027.

​Sowore’s declaration comes in direct response to comments made by Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate Donald Duke during an appearance on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast. While Duke praised the activist as a “voice of conscience” who articulates uncomfortable truths that others avoid due to political civility, he admitted uncertainty over whether Sowore intended to actually seek elective office.

​Taking to his social media platforms, Sowore expressed gratitude for the former Cross River State governor’s acknowledgment but moved quickly to correct the record for posterity.

​”Let me clear up your uncertainty, and this is important for posterity: I am running for president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2027,” Sowore stated, pointing out that his candidacy is duly recognized on the final list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

​Redefining Political Ambition

​Sowore emphasized that his presidential aspirations transcend conventional political pursuits. He argued that his campaign is not driven by the allure of power, government appointments, or access to state resources, but rather by a mission to dismantle what he termed a “rotten political order.”

​”We, in the AAC, are running to fundamentally change Nigeria,” he asserted, noting that the party’s platform centers on systemic restructuring, revolutionary justice, living wages, free and quality education, comprehensive healthcare, security, reliable electricity, and affordable housing.

​Rejection of Opposition Coalitions

​The AAC flagbearer also dismissed speculations about joining a broad opposition coalition. He maintained that any alliance whose primary objective is merely to unseat the current administration to install another member of the existing political establishment fails to address the root causes of the nation’s struggles.

​Concluding his response, Sowore playfully referenced an missed opportunity for an in-person exchange at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.

​”Consider yourself lucky that you arrived late to the presidential debate at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt. I would have cleared your doubts by now,” he quipped, before signing off with a definitive challenge: “See you on the campaign trail!”
