The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has lifted its long-standing restriction on modifying registered contact details, introducing a controlled procedure for candidates who have lost access to their initial phone numbers or email addresses.
Effective Monday, September 21, 2026, the updated framework addresses recurring challenges faced by Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) applicants locked out of essential profiles. Previously, strict security protocols barred alterations to registered GSM numbers and electronic mail accounts to prevent data tampering. However, mounting appeals from stranded applicants prompted the board to deploy an integrated verification architecture.
Under the new guidelines, affected candidates can update either their phone number, email address, or both. To forestall fraudulent activities, the board instituted mandatory safeguards: the update service is restricted to a one-time usage per candidate and requires a duly executed court affidavit alongside strict biometric validation.
Applicants are required to initiate the process via their e-Facility profiles by selecting the payment option for SIM swap and email modifications. Following payment, candidates must visit designated JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and State Offices to complete physical biometric checks and upload their credentials.
The board has strongly warned applicants against patronising unauthorised third-party agents or cybercafés, stressing that official modifications can only be processed through designated centres.
