A woman and two other people have been arrested in Edo State over allegations involving the abduction, sexual abuse and cyberbullying of a 16-year-old girl.
The arrests were made by operatives of the Edo State Security Corps as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s alleged ordeal.
Details of the case remain limited, and the allegations have not been established in court.
Because the case involves a minor and allegations of sexual abuse, the identity and identifying details of the girl should remain protected.
The arrests, however, underline the overlap between physical crimes against children and online abuse, where threats, humiliation or harassment can continue even after an alleged physical incident.
Authorities are expected to establish what happened, identify the roles of the suspects and determine whether additional offences were committed.
An arrest is not a finding of guilt, and the suspects remain entitled to due process. ValidViewNetwork reports that the case has brought renewed attention to child protection in Edo State, particularly where alleged physical abuse and online harassment intersect.
