Ogun Exco Clears Roads, Hospitals, Power and MSME Agency

The Ogun State Executive Council has given the green light to a wide-ranging package of infrastructure and economic projects designed to boost connectivity, expand healthcare access, support small businesses and strengthen electricity supply for the state’s industrial base.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, briefed journalists on Sunday after the weekend meeting. He said the council approved reconstruction of the 4.87-kilometre Siun Junction–Iperu Junction Road, which links Obafemi Owode and Ikenne local government areas, and the equally long 4.87-kilometre Simawa–Lukosi/Ogijo Road in Sagamu Local Government Area.

Variations were also approved for ongoing work on the Sango–Ota–Ijoko–Agbado–Oke-Aro–Akute Road (Phase I) in Ifo Local Government Area and the 69.2-kilometre Abeokuta–Abule Egba Road. Officials said the projects will ease the movement of people and goods, reduce travel times and open more economic opportunities across the state. These roads form part of a broader network of interventions under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, which has prioritised strategic corridors connecting industrial zones, agricultural communities and major transport links.

In the health sector, the council approved construction of new General Hospitals in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, and Aiyepe, Odogbolu Local Government Area. The facilities are intended to bring quality medical services closer to residents and expand the state’s secondary healthcare capacity in areas where demand continues to grow. Itori’s previous general hospital, built under an earlier administration, had fallen into disrepair and was at one point used for farming, underscoring the need for renewed investment.

To support entrepreneurship, the council established the Ogun State Enterprise Development Agency. The new body is mandated to coordinate and strengthen assistance for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), promote entrepreneurship, improve access to business opportunities and help smaller firms expand, create jobs and contribute more to the local economy.

On energy, the council approved the state’s participation in power generation through the adoption of Gateway Power Limited. Officials described the move as critical for providing more reliable electricity to Ogun’s expanding industrial and commercial sectors. The state has pursued multiple power initiatives in recent years, including independent power projects and partnerships aimed at reducing reliance on the national grid and supporting industrial clusters.

The council also approved the appointment of Otunba Osunsina Olumide John (also referred to as Otunba Olumide Atanda Osunsina) as the new Olu of Ifo in Ifo Local Government Area. The businessman and community figure had earlier emerged from the traditional selection process following the passing of the previous monarch.

Akinmade said the approvals cut across transport infrastructure, healthcare, enterprise development and energy, reflecting a strategy of building the physical and economic foundations needed for sustained growth. The decisions continue the administration’s focus on roads as engines of economic activity, expanded public services and support for both traditional institutions and private-sector development.
