Charismatic Bishops Back Tinubu, Pledge Support Beyond 2027

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027, pledging prayers and advocacy.

In an emotional appeal, the bishops also urged the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to beg President Tinubu to release detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

A Powerful Endorsement

ValidViewNetwork gathered that the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.

The President-General of the conference, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, announced the endorsement on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, during the organisation’s 2026 synod.

“We stand with him even beyond 2027,” Kawas declared, adding that the conference’s support extends “as long as he’s willing to be our president”.

A Plea for Kanu

In a significant move, the bishops also used the occasion to make an emotional appeal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, to beg President Tinubu to release detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Archbishop Robert Imoh, speaking on behalf of the South-East zone, first declared the region’s support for the Tinubu administration before turning to Akume with an emotional plea over Kanu’s continued detention.

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria represents a network of bishops across 51 countries and expressed support for the administration of President Tinubu.
