​Modakeke Launches Tech Hub to Drive Free Digital Skills for Students

​Modakeke has taken a decisive leap into the digital age with the commissioning of the Edwardhye Technology Centre at the former Akọsile Estate, a facility designed to deliver free Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training to secondary school students across the community.

​The initiative stems from a partnership between the Modakeke Progressive International (MPI), USA, and local philanthropist Pastor Abiodun Edward Igbaro. While MPI envisioned a digital literacy hub to equip young minds for the global economy, the project materialized after Pastor Igbaro donated and developed his property to house the facility.

​Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Pastor Igbaro emphasized that digital education is no longer optional.

​”The world has gone digital, hence the need to get our children in Modakeke educated in the digital world,” Igbaro stated.

​To ensure the sustainability of the project, MPI USA has committed to covering staff salaries, complementing a batch of computers already shipped to Nigeria. The centre has a capacity to train 120 students concurrently. Igbaro urged parents to encourage youth participation while advising students to safeguard the equipment.

​In his welcome address, Elder Edward Oyewole noted that technology access has shifted from a luxury to an absolute necessity. He stressed that the facility will successfully bridge the divide between analogue and digital generations within the community.

​Built with modern infrastructure, the Edwardhye Technology Centre features a main training hall, a control room, an executive conference room, separate restroom facilities, staff quarters, and a reliable solar-powered energy system.

​The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola, who performed the tape-cutting ceremony, lauded MPI USA and Pastor Igbaro for their collaborative vision. He praised Igbaro’s consistent dedication to community development, describing the investment as a vital investment in the future of Modakeke’s youth.

​The event drew prominent community leaders, including Chief Benjamin Adeyemi, Alhaji Tajudeen Oke, Prof. Peter Olawuni, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman Ven. Debo Babalola, palace chiefs, and various national executives of the Modakeke Progressive Union (MPU).

​With the centre now operational, Modakeke sets a strong precedent for community-driven self-help initiatives, empowering its younger generation to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
