Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration has delivered a major governance turnaround in Rivers State, culminating in a high-profile fortnight of project inaugurations between August 17 and August 28, 2026. Rather than engaging political detractors in endless rhetoric, the administration utilized concrete results across roads, healthcare, education, and security to validate its tenure.
The intense two-week commissioning circuit spanned multiple local government areas, showcasing a deliberate effort to spread development beyond urban centers into historically neglected riverine and rural corridors.
Key milestones from the infrastructure blitz include:
- Buguma-Degema-Abonnema Road: Unveiling of the 19.79-kilometre corridor across Asari-Toru, Degema, and Akuku-Toru LGAs, featuring seven rehabilitated bridges, streetlights, and drainage systems that dismantled criminal hideouts along the route.
- Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Dual Carriageway: Reconstruction of the 33.5-kilometre highway connecting Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs, transforming a notorious security hotspot into a thriving economic transit zone.
- Omoku Zonal Hospital: Commissioning of a modern 105-bed medical facility in the Orashi region to boost healthcare access within the state’s oil and gas belt.
- Bonny National Grammar School: Completion of a major remodeling project at the 1965 historic institution, ending decades of unfulfilled political promises to the island community.
- Security & Education Enhancements: Upgrades to military infrastructure, including runway and apron reconstructions at the 115 Special Operations Group of the Nigerian Air Force in Port Harcourt, alongside structural expansions at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic.
By deliberately prioritizing continuity—such as finishing the 14.5-kilometre Agba-Ndele Road and its associated bridge initiated by a previous administration—Fubara has signaled that public utilities transcend political divisions. While long-term value will depend on consistent maintenance, this aggressive infrastructure push has fundamentally altered the state’s political and developmental landscape.
