Fury-Joshua Blockbuster Teeters on Edge as Venue Dispute Stalls Contract

​LONDON — The long-awaited all-British heavyweight superfight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua is facing fresh hurdles, with promoter Frank Warren confirming that while Fury has officially penned his agreement, Joshua’s camp has yet to finalize the paperwork.

​The lucrative showdown, tentatively pushed back to a November target window following adjustments to Joshua’s schedule, remains stalled over conflicting contractual details—most notably the battleground for the opening bell.

​While initial terms pointed toward a monumental homecoming clash under the arch at Wembley Stadium, financial backers and event organizers are heavily pushing to shift the destination overseas. Saudi-backed promotional entity Sela and global broadcast partner Netflix are advocating to host the mega-event at Madison Square Garden in New York, aiming to capitalize on a massive American gate and digital audience.

​Warren stressed that the delay rests squarely with Joshua’s team as lawyers work to amend overlapping clauses across separate venue and television agreements.

​”The latest is Joshua’s not signed yet,” Warren stated. “It’s not for me to give him a deadline, it’s the people who are paying the money. It’s all this stuff, as I said from the beginning, it’s about contracts. I know what the contracts say. The contracts have all got to be amended.”

​In contrast, Warren maintained that the former heavyweight champion commonly known as “The Gypsy King” has adopted a zero-stipulation approach to where the bout takes place. Fury originally affixed his signature to the prospective agreement back in January for an intended September date, which was subsequently moved to late autumn.

​”Tyson’s signed. Tyson’s done. He don’t care when the fight takes place,” Warren added. “If they want it in New York, they want it in Barbados, they want it on the Isle of Wight, he’s signed. He’s done.”

​Time is rapidly running thin for both camps to lock in the logistics. With training camps already underway and financial stakeholders growing impatient over the prolonged administrative stalemate, organizers maintain that prompt resolution is required to prevent the historic pairing from sliding further down the calendar.
