Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that he expects to bear the immediate brunt of political retaliation should President Bola Tinubu fail to secure a second term in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a televised media chat, the former Rivers State governor stated that his aggressive, public mobilization for President Tinubu has permanently marked him out among opposition figures, specifically naming former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party standard-bearer Peter Obi.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” Wike asserted, underscoring the high-stakes nature of his alignment with the ruling administration despite maintaining his membership in the fractured Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Dismissing political backlash and intense public criticism—which he claims surpasses that faced by any other contemporary Nigerian politician—Wike maintained that his daily routine is entirely consumed by strategizing for the president’s return.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he emphasized.
The FCT minister also used the platform to address internal party frictions, taking swipes at opposition figures while signaling that political realignments ahead of 2027 will continue to test party lines across the country.
