The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully dismantled a child abduction ring with the rearrest of two notorious ex-convicts, Rose Daniel and Blessing John, just months after they regained freedom from prison.
The suspects were apprehended on August 27, 2026, in the Kuje Area Council of Abuja while attempting to flee with a four-year-old girl, Ummi Mariam Abdullah.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the breakthrough followed a distress alert from a vigilant community member who witnessed the suspicious abduction in progress. Law enforcement operatives responded swiftly, intercepting the suspects and safely rescuing the minor.
A background check by investigators revealed that Daniel and John were initially arrested in December 2025 and arraigned for a similar crime. Although convicted, they managed to secure a release on bail after serving roughly five months behind bars.
Police inquiries indicate that the pair wasted no time returning to criminality upon their release, allegedly abducting and trafficking at least four children to various destinations across the country. Investigators uncovered that a recent operation involved trafficking two children to a primary accomplice in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, known as Madam Ijeoma, who allegedly purchased them for N1.5 million each.
The rescued four-year-old victim has since been restored to her grieving family. Meanwhile, the suspects remain in police detention and will face formal charges in court as soon as comprehensive investigations conclude.
Reiterating the command’s commitment to child safety, SP Adeh called on parents and guardians to maintain heightened vigilance regarding the movements and whereabouts of their children. The public is also urged to report any suspicious activities immediately via the FCT Police emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883, the Complaint Response Unit at 08107314192, or the PPRO FCT direct line at 07038979348.
