​Kensington Palace has officially marked a major royal milestone, releasing a striking new portrait of Prince George to celebrate his 13th birthday.

​The future king, who reached the teenage milestone on Wednesday, July 22, is captured looking relaxed yet grown-up in a dark-coloured suit and open-necked white shirt. Photographed by Matt Porteous following last month’s Trooping the Colour celebrations, the image was shared across the official social media channels of the Prince and Princess of Wales alongside the warm greeting: “Happy 13th birthday, George!”

​Born at the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington on July 22, 2013, the eldest son of Prince William and Princess Catherine is second in line to the British throne.

​A New Chapter at Eton College

​Beyond the birthday celebrations, the young royal is facing his biggest life change yet. In September, Prince George will begin his secondary education as a boarder at the prestigious Eton College, directly following in the footsteps of his father.

​The historic Berkshire institution, where pupils traditionally begin at age 13, marks a significant shift from his previous years at Lambrook School. While the transition will introduce him to the structured independence of campus boarding life, his proximity to the family’s Windsor residence ensures he remains close to home as he prepares for his ultimate destiny on the throne.
