AMMON Drops Lawsuit, Unlocks 1.55m Smart Meters

​The Association of Meter Manufacturers of Nigeria has officially discontinued its legal battle against the Federal Government, clearing the path for the immediate resumption of procurement processes for 1.55 million smart electricity meters.

​The legal standoff, which began in April 2026 after the association secured a Federal High Court injunction in Kano, had previously stalled major intervention initiatives including the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme, the Meter Acquisition Fund Phase III, and the Presidential Metering Initiative.

​The breakthrough follows high-level negotiations and interventions led by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, alongside key stakeholders such as the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
