ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate appointment of former House of Representatives spokesperson, Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas, as the new Director-General of the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA).
The President also approved major leadership changes at the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), naming veteran lawmaker Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon as Executive Director, Strategy & Commercial, and reappointing Mr. Chukwuma Umeoji as Executive Director, Corporate Services.
The announcement was made public late Friday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga. According to the presidency, all appointments take effect immediately.
Leadership Transition at BCDA
Namdas, a seasoned journalist and public relations expert, steps into the BCDA leadership role to replace Dr. Dakorinama Alabo George. Dr. George recently resigned from the position to pursue a governorship bid in his home state of Rivers.
The BCDA is a critical statutory body established under the Border Communities Development Agency Act of 2003 (as amended in 2006). It is tasked with spearheading the development of Nigeria’s border communities through the provision of essential social services, infrastructure, and socioeconomic projects.
Namdas brings significant legislative and administrative experience to the agency. He previously represented the Ganye/Jada/Mayo Belwa/Toungo Federal Constituency of Adamawa State in the National Assembly, where he served as the official image-maker for the 8th House of Representatives. He was also a prominent gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State and previously served as Chief Press Secretary to the former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna. To focus on his political trajectory ahead of the state’s upcoming election cycle, Namdas had recently resigned from his role representing the North-East zone on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Key Shake-ups in the NDPHC Board
The restructuring at the NDPHC also comes on the heels of politically motivated vacancies.
- Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon takes over the Strategy & Commercial portfolio from Engineer Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who resigned to pursue a political ambition in Edo State. Obahiagbon, widely known for his distinct oratorical style and extensive legislative background, has served in both the Edo State House of Assembly and the National Assembly.
- Mr. Chukwuma Umeoji secures a swift return as the Executive Director of Corporate Services. Umeoji, who represented the Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State in the 9th National Assembly, had briefly resigned from the position to participate in elective politics in his home state before being reinstated by the President.
Presidency sources indicate that these appointments are part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to fill vacuum-driven administrative lapses with experienced political hands capable of driving the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda in infrastructure and border security.
