In a decisive outcome that reshaped the political atmosphere in Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress secured a sweeping victory in Saturday’s governorship election, reaffirming his mandate across all 16 local government areas. The announcement, made in the early hours of Sunday, triggered celebrations among APC supporters and set the tone for another four years of Oyebanji’s administration.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Oyebanji winner after he polled 319,224 votes, far ahead of his closest rivals , Olumayokun Oluyede of the PDP, who scored 40,533 votes, and Dare Bejide of the ADC, who garnered 12,872 votes. The Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice- Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure, affirmed that the APC candidate met all legal requirements and therefore stood re‑elected.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the election recorded 988,251 registered voters, with 384,940 accredited, and 375,777 valid votes counted. The PDP candidate, despite strong expectations in his home base of Efon‑Alaaye, lost in his own local government, ValidViewNetwork reports.
The APC’s dominance was evident across the board, with Oyebanji winning convincingly in Ado‑Ekiti, Ikole, Ekiti West, Ekiti East, Irepodun/Ifelodun, and several other LGAs. His strongest tallies included 38,026 votes in Ado‑Ekiti, 29,278 in Irepodun/Ifelodun, and 28,258 in Ekiti West, underscoring a broad statewide endorsement.
Oyebanji’s re‑election represents one of the rare moments of continuity in Ekiti’s governorship history, signaling a consolidation of APC influence in a state long known for its unpredictable electoral landscape, ValidViewNetwork reports.
As supporters celebrated through the night, analysts noted that the governor’s re‑election reflects both his political structure and the electorate’s appetite for continuity. And as Ekiti enters a new chapter under a renewed mandate, one thing is clear: the people have spoken loudly, decisively, and with a unified voice which is a reminder that democracy thrives when citizens take ownership of their future and show up at the ballot box with conviction.
