IBADAN – The Oyo State Police Command has intensified search operations following the brazen abduction of a woman, Mrs. Adetutu Aderibigbe, in the Bolumole area of Ibadan.
The victim was reportedly whisked away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at approximately 6:00 PM. While initial social media reports suggested a violent ambush in the middle of the road involving a smashed windscreen, official police findings have clarified the circumstances of the attack.
Trailed to Her Residence
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the assailants trailed Mrs. Aderibigbe to her residence.
”Upon her arrival and while attempting to enter her premises, she was accosted at the gate by four armed men wearing masks,” Ayanlade stated. The gunmen subsequently forced the victim into an unregistered black Lexus vehicle and sped off to an unknown destination.
A family member who was present at the scene during the encounter was left unharmed by the abductors.
Police Response and Forensic Action
Following the distress call, the Oyo State Police Command immediately activated its Control Room and alerted relevant tactical units. Detectives were deployed to the Bolumole area, located off Ring Road near Challenge, for an on-the-spot assessment.
The police confirmed that the crime scene has been forensically examined, with “critical evidence” recovered to assist in tracking the kidnappers.
”Surveillance and intelligence efforts have been intensified to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the victim,” the PPRO added.
Growing Security Concerns
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Ibadan metropolis, particularly in the Challenge and Ring Road axis, which are known for high evening activity. Residents have expressed growing concern over the audacity of kidnappers operating in broad daylight and trailing victims to their doorsteps.
The Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement by providing any credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects or the safe return of Mrs. Aderibigbe.
As of Saturday afternoon, the abductors have reportedly made no contact with the family, leaving loved ones in a state of agonizing suspense.
