Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo, former Deputy Governor of Oyo State under the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has been unanimously elected as the new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State. The emergence occurred during the party’s state congress on March 3, 2026, at Liberty Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, following extensive consultations among leaders across the state’s 33 local government areas. Hailing from Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oke-Ogun, Adeyemo served as deputy governor from 2011 to 2019 and was adopted as a consensus candidate under the supervision of the APC national leadership’s congress committee.

Shortly after his inauguration, Chief Alake-Adeyemo and his team paid a courtesy visit to Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, widow of his former principal, at her residence in Oluyole, Ibadan. Social media posts from Florence Ajimobi’s accounts confirmed the visit, highlighting the new chairman—described as “His Excellency, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo”—and his entourage, underscoring enduring ties from the Ajimobi era. This gesture signals continuity and respect within party ranks as APC prepares for upcoming zonal congresses and its national convention on March 27-28.

New State Executive Committee
The congress also unveiled other key executives, including Dr. Taofeek Lamidi as Deputy Chairman, Barrister Fatai Adesina as Secretary, and Hon. Lukman Owonikoko as Assistant Secretary. Ex-Officio members elected include Akanmu Adebowale, Ejalonibu Fatai Aremu, Asimiyu Kolawole, and Odeyemi Simon Oladoyinbo. Positions were zoned by an ad hoc committee chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, with Hon. Azeez Repete as secretary, ensuring equitable representation.

Party Congress Timeline
The peaceful Oyo congress follows ward-level polls on February 28 and local government congresses, aligning with APC’s adjusted 2026 schedule signed by National Organizing Secretary Sulaiman Argungu. Appeals from state congresses are set for March 4, with zonal forms available March 13-16 and screening committees inaugurated on March 23. Party stakeholders anticipate Adeyemo’s leadership will bolster APC’s push for the 2027 governorship in Oyo State.
