...VC Hails Ceremony as ‘Defining Chapter’ in Institution’s Unstoppable Ascent

In a blaze of academic excellence and spiritual fervour, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, on Wednesday held its landmark 15th Convocation Ceremony, graduating a total of 1,924 students across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The graduating class comprised 1,625 undergraduates, 299 postgraduate students and 22 doctoral candidates, marking one of the most remarkable convocations in the institution’s history.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of an honorary doctorate on Foluke Adenike Adeboye, fondly known as Mummy G.O., wife of the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, in recognition of her lifelong contributions to education, family values and spiritual mentorship.

The convocation also recorded an impressive academic harvest, with 96 undergraduates graduating with First Class honours.

A further breakdown showed that 719 students earned Second Class Upper Division, another 719 secured Second Class Lower Division, while 82 graduated with Third Class degrees.

At the postgraduate level, 46 students bagged distinctions, 143 obtained merit, and 88 graduated with pass grades, underscoring what the university described as its sustained culture of academic rigour.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, in his address, described the ceremony as “a defining chapter in Caleb’s unstoppable ascent in Nigeria’s higher education ecosystem.”

He congratulated the graduating students and charged them to see themselves as ambassadors of excellence, innovation and godly character.

According to him, since assuming office on June 2, 2025, his administration has been guided by a Seven-Point Agenda focused on creating a godly environment for dream fulfilment, promoting academic excellence, strengthening research and innovation, and expanding both local and international collaborations.

Other pillars of the agenda, he noted, include institutional governance, entrepreneurship and sustainability, as well as climate and environmental responsibility.

“Our vision is to produce graduates who are not just certificate holders but solution providers, innovators and nation-builders,” Asikhia said.

He disclosed that the university successfully hosted its 2025 Employability Fair themed “Preparing Graduates for the World of Work,” during which several students secured internship and employment opportunities.

The Vice-Chancellor further revealed that fresh student enrolment for the 2025/2026 academic session reached 3,616 as of November 30, 2025, following an aggressive nationwide marketing expansion across the six geopolitical zones.

In her citation, Adeboye was described as a revered educationist, accomplished administrator and moral compass to millions across the globe.

Dignitaries at the event paid glowing tributes to her, describing her as “a matriarch of grace and discipline, a guardian of values, and a timeless symbol of dignity.”

They noted that her commitment to youth development and spiritual leadership aligns with the university’s philosophy of raising total men and women.

Delivering the convocation lecture, the General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, urged the graduating students to combine excellence with character.

He charged them to carry their faith boldly into boardrooms, laboratories, courtrooms and corridors of power, stressing that excellence without character is hollow.

The atmosphere at the Imota campus was marked by academic pageantry, worship and celebration as parents, lecturers and well-wishers gathered to witness the milestone.

From its beginnings in 1986 as a tutorial centre in Ketu to its establishment as a full-fledged university in 2007, Caleb University has grown into one of Lagos State’s leading private institutions.

Principal officers present at the ceremony included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Sunday Adewale; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, Strategy and Administration), Prof. Adesola Ajayi; and the Bursar, Mr. Adeshina Abubakre, alongside members of Senate, Management, Governing Council and Board of Trustees.

Registrar Mr. Mayokun Olumeru described the convocation as “a celebration of champions — men and women refined by knowledge, character and faith, ready to shape society and redefine possibilities.”

In a statement, the university’s Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Olawale Adekoya, affirmed that the ceremony symbolised Caleb’s enduring commitment to producing graduates who are spiritually grounded, intellectually sound and globally competitive.

Indeed, beyond the conferment of degrees and honours, the 15th Convocation stood as a declaration of purpose — that Caleb University remains steadfast in its mission to raise leaders equipped to transform society.
