Kogi State Government has announced the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition from suspected criminal hideouts during recent joint security operations across the state.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo disclosed this while briefing journalists at Government House, Lokoja, on Wednesday. He said the operation was the outcome of a week-long, intelligence-led offensive coordinated by security agencies in collaboration with the state government.
According to Ododo, security operatives acting on credible intelligence raided several identified enclaves used by criminal gangs to launch attacks on communities and motorists. He explained that the arms haul included assorted rifles, ammunition and other dangerous weapons allegedly used in kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes.
The governor praised the synergy among the military, police, Department of State Services and other security outfits, describing the exercise as a clear example of what sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated action can achieve in the fight against crime.
He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on insecurity, warning that Kogi would no longer be a safe haven for criminal elements. Ododo urged residents to continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information, assuring them that identities of informants would be protected.

The governor further restated his commitment to sustaining ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and consolidating recent gains in the state’s security architecture. He added that the recovered weapons would be subjected to further investigation to trace their sources and possible links to wider criminal syndicates.
Security officials at the briefing said the recent raids formed part of broader efforts to secure major highways, rural communities and border corridors in Kogi, and vowed that more operations would follow in the coming weeks.
