In a determined counter-operation, troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade, while conducting routine patrols to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, came under a heavy and sudden ambush by insurgents. The patrol was returning from a successful mission within the fringes of the Sambisa Forest when the attack occurred.
The patrol team, under the direct leadership of the Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), responded with courage and overwhelming firepower. They decisively engaged the terrorists, forcing them into a disorganized retreat and abandonment of their mission.
Tragically, two soldiers and two CJTF members lost their lives in the line of duty during this fierce encounter. The Nigerian Army’s high command has expressed deep condolences to the families and comrades of the fallen heroes, honoring their sacrifice for the nation.
Importantly, the Army Headquarters issued a strong rebuttal against circulating false reports claiming the abduction of the Brigade Commander. The public is urged to disregard such misinformation and continue supporting the brave men and women safeguarding national security.
Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff and Nigerian Army Medal recipient, praised the steadfast bravery, resilience, and selfless sacrifice of the troops operating in one of Nigeria’s most perilous conflict zones. Their unwavering commitment under severe threat highlights the ongoing sacrifices made daily to secure peace in Nigeria.
