In a horrifying incident that has left the Mahikeng community reeling, a 25-year-old man brutally murdered his 48-year-old mother with a garden shovel at their family home in Mosiane View village on Sunday afternoon, October 5, 2025. The violent attack, witnessed by neighbors, escalated to the point where the man continued to hack his mother’s lifeless body.
According to eye-witnesses, the son attacked his mother with extreme ferocity. A neighbor who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and found the man still assaulting the body. In a desperate attempt to halt the gruesome act, the neighbor shot the attacker, killing him instantly. Police later arrived to find both the mother and son deceased.
Preliminary investigations by the South African Police Service’s Occult Related Crimes Unit suggest that drug abuse may have played a role in the tragic and brutal killing. There are also chilling indications that satanic rituals may have been involved, as reports from community leaders and moral organizations reveal disturbing details about the nature of the attack. The Community Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) has condemned the killings, describing the incident as a stark manifestation of growing moral decay and social trauma in the area.
The Provincial Department of Social Development has deployed officials to support the impacted family and community through trauma counseling and psychosocial services. Police have urged the public to refrain from sharing viral videos circulating on social media of the violent act to respect the dignity of the deceased and allow the investigation to proceed unhindered.
The shocking event underscores broader social concerns, including drug addiction, domestic violence, and alleged occult practices affecting youth in the region. The police investigation remains active, with the neighbor involved in the shooting taken in for questioning as authorities gather more facts about the incident.
Community leaders have called for prayers, dialogue, and joint efforts to address the root causes behind such heinous acts to restore peace and safety in Mahikeng and surrounding areas.
This tragic parricide has deeply unsettled residents, highlighting urgent needs for social intervention and strengthened family and community values .
