MANCHESTER, UK – A community in north Manchester is reeling today after a 14-year-old boy was tragically stabbed to death in what police are calling a “horrific incident” on Sunday evening. The brutal attack has prompted a swift murder investigation by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), leading to the arrest of four individuals, including two teenage boys.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was discovered with fatal stab wounds on Nevin Road in New Moston at approximately 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Despite the immediate response of emergency services and the efforts of an air ambulance crew, the young boy succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Detectives quickly launched a major inquiry, and their early investigations led to the identification of potential suspects. GMP confirmed that a 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender after officers attended a nearby address. Shortly thereafter, two boys, aged 14 and 16, were taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
A 14-year-old girl was also arrested overnight on suspicion of assisting an offender. All four currently remain in police custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton of GMP addressed the shock and sadness gripping the local community. “This incident will have shocked and saddened the local community, and distressed anyone who witnessed it,” DCI Charlton stated. He assured the public that significant resources are being deployed to the murder investigation, which enabled the rapid identification of suspects.
The police presence in the New Moston area is expected to remain high as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Several crime scenes have been established as part of the ongoing investigation.
DCI Charlton emphasized that the victim’s family is receiving support from officers, and he reiterated the police’s determination to provide them with the answers they deserve. While arrests have been made, the investigation is still live, and authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their inquiries.
GMP is urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and witnessed anything, or who may have doorbell or dashcam footage, to come forward. Information can be reported by calling 101, quoting log 2250 of June 8, 2025.
Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always call 999.
As the community grapples with this devastating loss, updates will be provided by the police as the investigation progresses.
