The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended Elela Monday for allegedly murdering his 14-year old son, Tope Elela, in Ajowa Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government area of the state.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, the suspect was among several individuals recently arrested by the command.
Elela reportedly buried his son in a shallow grave under a banana tree behind his house.
In a statement released on Sunday, the police commissioner disclosed that the tragic incident occurred on December 30. He stated, “The police received an anonymous tip-off that one Elela Monday, residing in Ajowa Akoko, killed his 14-year old son, Tope Elela, and buried him in a shallow grave. Upon arrest, the suspect admitted during interrogation that his son’s involvement in criminal activities brought embarrassment to the family. To stop the disgrace, he and his wife decided to kill him.”
In a related development, the commissioner provided an update on a recent cult clash in Owo town, which claimed four lives.
He revealed that 25 suspects had been arrested so far, including a 28-year old cult member, Olamide Ogunseyila, who confessed to his involvement in the activities.
“The suspects are undergoing thorough interrogation to determine their specific roles in the crisis. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to apprehend Steven Dada, also known as ‘Ogodo,’ and other individuals connected to the criminal acts,” Afolabi added.
The commissioner reassured residents of the state of the police command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
