OTA, NIGERIA — Ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections, the Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), David Oyedepo, has charged Christians across the globe to shake off political apathy, acquire their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and actively participate in electing the nation’s leaders.

Delivering a powerful sermon titled “Breaking the Curses of Life” at the church’s global headquarters, Canaanland, in Ota, Ogun State, Bishop Oyedepo declared that political engagement is an unavoidable civic duty for every responsible citizen.

Addressing thousands of worshippers locally and millions more streaming globally, the prominent cleric stressed that true spirituality must translate into proactive engagement with governance.

”We have a civic responsibility as responsible citizens of our various nations,” Bishop Oyedepo asserted. “This church is today in 144 nations. Endeavour to secure your voter’s card. You are men and women of the Spirit and should know, based on your personal conviction, who to cast your vote for.”

Non-Partisan but Politically Conscious

The Bishop clarified that the church’s mandate remains strictly non-partisan, highlighting that his exhortation was not an endorsement of any specific political figure or party. He noted that he has never run for office or personally campaigned for votes, choosing instead to stay focused on his core pastoral calling.

However, Oyedepo emphasized that the church’s institutional neutrality should not be mistaken for indifference. With millions of members under the ministry’s umbrella, the cleric maintained that Christians hold a vital stake in determining the direction of the country.

”I have never carried a ballot box in my life, so I am not going to ask anyone to vote for me. I am already voted for,” the cleric noted. “But we have a right to determine who rules us. And this church, with the millions that we have, has a say in it. So be part of it.”

A Growing Trend in Voter Mobilization

Religious institutions in Nigeria have increasingly taken on prominent structural roles in civic sensitization and political education. The call by Bishop Oyedepo signals early preparation for the 2027 polls, focusing heavily on voter registration, which has historically suffered from low turnouts among certain faith communities and the youth demographic.

By grounding voter participation within the church’s official policy, the Living Faith Church leadership is positioning civic involvement not just as a constitutional right, but as an essential responsibility for its global congregation.
