White House Backs England for 2026 World Cup Glory

Following the United States’ early elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the White House has officially thrown its support behind England. Andrew Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s representative for the tournament, signaled the administration’s backing for the Three Lions as they progress toward the semi-finals.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Giuliani noted that an English victory would provide a poignant narrative during the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations. “If the United States can’t win on our 250th birthday, then a great story line would be the English coming to America and winning during our anniversary celebrations,” he stated. “It’s been 60 years of hurt for England, so that would be a beautiful victory for them.”

A Presidential Interest in Football

Giuliani further revealed that President Trump has been closely monitoring the tournament, specifically highlighting the performances of England captain Harry Kane. According to Giuliani, the President’s familiarity with the sport has grown through his son, Barron, and personal interactions with high-profile figures in football, including a memorable round of golf with former England striker Wayne Rooney.

Kane, for his part, has previously spoken of his own rapport with the President, describing a 2024 golf outing in Palm Beach, Florida, as a “surreal” and “unique experience.”

Strategic Outlook

Looking ahead to the remainder of the competition, Giuliani praised the balance of the current England squad under manager Thomas Tuchel. He identified Kane and midfielder Jude Bellingham as the vital components capable of carrying the team through their upcoming challenges. “England strike me as being an exceedingly well-balanced team,” Giuliani remarked. “If the coach can drill it into them that they have the potential to win, they can go all the way.”

England is set to face defending champions Argentina in the semi-finals this Wednesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a match that stands as the biggest test yet for their campaign to end a 60-year wait for a major global trophy.
