Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in London on Monday to pay a condolence visit to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 82. The visit, directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, comes as the nation mourns the loss of its former leader, who died at a London clinic following a prolonged illness.
Shettima was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, forming a high-level delegation tasked with supporting the Buhari family and overseeing arrangements for the late president’s return to Nigeria. President Tinubu had earlier spoken with Mrs. Buhari to offer his condolences and ordered that flags be flown at half-staff nationwide in honor of the late statesman.

Former President Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military head of state from 1984 to 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, had been in London for medical care in the weeks preceding his death. His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the country and the international community.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon as the presidential delegation prepares to accompany the late president’s body back to Nigeria for final rites.
