…..as former UK PM visits President-elect
The US President, Joe Biden has announced the designation of a 9-member strong Presidential Delegation to attend the Inauguration of Nigeria incoming president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29, 2023, in Abuja.
According to a statement from the White House, the US delegation will be led by Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia L. Fudge.
Other members of the Presidential Delegation are Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy, Abuja, Mr. David Greene, and The Honorable Sydney Kamlager-Dove, United States Representative (D), California
Among the Delegation are The Honorable Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce, General Michael E. Langley, Commander of US Africa Command and The Honorable Enoh T. Ebong, Director, U.S. Trade and Development Agency.
Others are The Honorable Mary Catherine Phee, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs, U.S. Department of State, The Honorable Judd Devermont, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs, National Security Council, as well as The Honorable Monde Muyangwa, Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Africa, U.S. Agency for International Development.
An informed Diplomatic source disclosed that the choice of the calibre of personalities in the delegation underscores the strategic importance the United States placed on Nigeria as a leading economy in Africa.
“It is also a signal from the US Goverment that Nigeria with its huge population need to be encouraged on the path of sustained democracy, devoid of anarchy and instability,” said the analyst, who preferred to remain anonymous.
FORMER UK PRIME MINISTER, TONY BLAIR VISITS TINUBU
Meanwhile, Former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, on Tuesday paid a visit to Nigeria President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
The meeting between the two leaders was made known in a short statement by Tinubu’s spokesman, Tunde Rahman.
Rahman, who shared photos of the meeting on Twitter, wrote, “President-elect Bola Tinubu and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair after a meeting this Tuesday afternoon at Defence House, Abuja.”
