In a clarion call to Nigerians, Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declared that any government failing to prioritize the welfare of its people is destined to lose relevance and collapse. Stressing the centrality of the people in governance, he warned that there is a limit to the pressures citizens can endure before a breaking point is reached.
Aregbesola emphasized that the ADC’s mission is both urgent and indispensable for the survival and revival of Nigeria. The party aims to rebuild from the grassroots, focusing on constructive engagement rather than distractions from outdated political battles with what he described as “agents of the dying dinosaurs.”
Highlighting inclusivity, the ADC constitution mandates a minimum of 50% representation for women and youth leadership—a groundbreaking step intended to empower historically marginalized groups. This is no mere tokenism but a strategic move to shape Nigeria’s future through fresh, dynamic voices.
Aregbesola affirmed the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy, where every member’s voice counts, and the party is animated by patriotic citizens united to salvage the nation from economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures.
“The task is clear: to rescue this beloved country from its current path of destruction and build a Nigeria that future generations will hold in pride,” he said. He urged members to diligently sell the party’s vision, grow its grassroots base, and avoid unproductive conflicts as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
In his remarks, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, represented by a political science professor, described ADC not just as a political party but as a movement of Nigerians committed to a better future.
