UNN Student Arrested for Hotel Murder in Nsukka

Nsukka, Enugu State – The Enugu State Police Command has apprehended Emmanuel Gambo, a second-year Material and Metallurgical Engineering student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), in connection with the murder of Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem, 22, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in Nsukka.

The tragic incident, initially reported to the Nsukka Urban Police Division, was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) for a comprehensive investigation.

According to police findings, Gambo, a native of Kogi State, checked into a hotel in Obukpa, Nsukka, with Ememem on the evening of June 14, 2025, around 9:00 p.m. A dispute reportedly erupted in the early hours of June 15, 2025, after a second round of intercourse. The deceased allegedly demanded an additional N15,000 from Gambo, beyond the N5,000 he had already paid. The disagreement escalated, leading to Gambo strangling Ememem to death.

After committing the crime, Gambo allegedly wrapped Ememem’s body in a towel and a curtain from the hotel room, concealing it under the bed. Hotel staff discovered the decomposing body on June 16, 2025, around 9:00 a.m., after noticing a foul odor emanating from the room.

Gambo had reportedly provided a false name and an unreachable phone number during hotel registration, initially hindering efforts to identify and apprehend him.

Acting on credible intelligence, police detectives located and arrested Gambo at his lodge in Nsukka on July 2, 2025. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the murder. Authorities recovered Ememem’s iPhone and a bottle of Asconi Agor red wine, which she had brought to the hotel, from Gambo’s possession. He subsequently led detectives to recover her Redmi tablet and earbuds, which he admitted to throwing out of the hotel window in a bag after the incident.

Further details regarding the ongoing investigation and the suspect’s arraignment are expected to be released by the police command.
