The University of East Anglia (UEA), located in Norwich, United Kingdom, has announced scholarships worth £33,150 (approximately N44.3 million) and travel grants of £4,000 (approximately N5.3 million) for Nigerians and other applicants pursuing a master’s degree in Plant and Health at the institution.
The scholarships, known as the David Sainsbury Scholarships in Global Plant Health, cover full tuition fees and travel expenses for students planning to study in the UK.
Additionally, the scholarship includes a postgraduate researcher stipend, the amount of which will be determined later for the upcoming academic session.
The stipend for the previous academic year was £18,622.
The university indicated that the scholarships are available for the 2024/2025 Academic Session, commencing in September.
In a statement on the school’s website, the University of East Anglia’s Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) highlighted the prestigious nature of the scholarship and encouraged eligible applicants to apply.
“The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) offers the prestigious David Sainsbury Scholarships in Global Plant Health to a limited number of applicants on the MSc in Global Plant Health.

“Each full scholarship will cover up to the full cost of the tuition fee (£33,150 for 2024-25), maintenance grant (exact value at the UKRI postgraduate researcher stipend level to be determined for 2024-25; in 2023-24, it was £18,622), and an additional £4,000 for travel costs (subject to valid economy class travel receipts).
“To be eligible for a full scholarship, applicants must meet specific criteria, including receiving an offer of a place on the UEA MSc in Global Plant Health and being a national of or domiciled in a least-developed, low-income, or lower-middle-income country or territory as defined by the Overseas Development Agency Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list for the 2024-25 academic year.”
The university emphasized that scholarships are limited and will be awarded throughout the year, urging applicants to apply early.
It also mentioned that once the admission criteria are met, applicants will receive an offer of a place on the UEA MSc in Global Plant Health.
Furthermore, the university advised applicants to check their website for updates on additional scholarships that will be posted in May.
