A Clash Caught on Camera
ValidViewNetwork gathered that the Edo State Police Command has ordered a discreet investigation into an altercation involving officers of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA) and the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) .
The development followed a video shared on X on Thursday, September 10, 2026, showing the officers involved in the incident, with an IRT officer seen firing his rifle into the air.
The InvestigationIn a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, had interviewed representatives of both parties and ordered a discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police has also directed that the conduct of the officer seen firing the rifle be subjected to appropriate disciplinary review,” the statement said.
A Zero-Tolerance Policy
The command said it “does not, and will not, condone any act of indiscipline, unprofessional conduct or abuse of police powers by any of its personnel.”
“Any officer, irrespective of the agency, found culpable after due investigation will be appropriately sanctioned in line with extant laws and regulations,” it added.
A Call for Inter-Agency Collaboration
The command also stated that it places “a high premium on inter-agency collaboration and mutual respect among security and government agencies,” noting that effective public safety depended on agencies working together professionally towards a common objective.
“The incident is therefore being treated with the seriousness it deserves, without prejudice to the established working relationship between the Edo State Police Command and EDSTMA,” the statement added.
The command urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their hands and instead report any police misconduct through its Complaint Response Unit.
A Lesson for Nigeria
The clash between police officers and traffic officials is a reminder that inter-agency rivalry undermines public safety.
When security agencies fight among themselves, it is the citizens who suffer.
The same officers who fire weapons in public over petty disputes will never allow their own children to be caught in the crossfire. Their families are protected.
For Nigeria, the lesson is clear: professionalism and mutual respect must guide the conduct of all security agencies.
The same leaders who tolerate indiscipline will never allow their own children to be victims of lawlessness.
