UAE Lifts Visa Restrictions on Nigerian Travelers, Resumes Visa Services

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially lifted the visa restriction on Nigerian travelers, with the resumption of visa services taking effect from March 4, 2024.

This development comes after the UAE had implemented a ban in October 2022, affecting citizens from approximately 20 African nations, including Nigeria.

The ban led to diplomatic tensions between the UAE and Nigeria, particularly concerning flight allocations and travel restrictions.

However, in a significant diplomatic breakthrough, discussions between President Bola Tinubu and UAE’s counterpart, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayad Al Nahyan, resulted in the lifting of the suspension.

A joint statement issued by both governments highlighted the shared vision for enhanced cooperation and mutual growth, leading to the resumption of visa services for Nigerian citizens.

To facilitate the visa application process, the UAE has introduced an innovative document verification process. Nigerian applicants are required to obtain a Document Verification Number through a dedicated online platform.

This initiative aims to expedite the application process while ensuring efficiency and integrity.

The UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Saleem Saeed Al-Shamsi, emphasized the significance of the visa service resumption, anticipating a surge in tourism, business exchanges, and cultural sharing between both countries.
