U.S. President Donald Trump has pulled no punches regarding the high-profile return of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the United Kingdom, declaring openly from the Oval Office that he is glad they left American soil.
Speaking to reporters, Trump made it clear that he was never a supporter of the couple and firmly criticized their past conduct toward the British monarchy. The remarks follow the Sussexes’ relocation back to Britain after spending six years residing in Montecito, California.
While Prince Harry has sought to mend ties with King Charles III amid the monarch’s cancer treatment, Trump argued that he would not have extended an olive branch if he were in the royal family’s shoes. “I thought they treated the royal family with great disrespect,” Trump said. “Maybe I’m different. I wouldn’t have taken him back, right? If I were the royal family, I would not have taken them back”.
The couple and their children settled back into a private British residence, maintaining their status as non-working royals while navigating a complex landscape of ongoing family estrangements and public scrutiny.
