Troops Foil Major Attack,Recover 56 IEDs on Borno Bridge

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have averted a potential disaster by recovering 56 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the strategic Marte–Dikwa Bridge in Borno State.

The cache of explosives was discovered during a clearance operation conducted by soldiers of the 24 Brigade in Dikwa, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the operation on Friday. The bridge, a vital link connecting key towns in northern Borno, was targeted in what military sources describe as a major terror plot.

Photos from the scene reportedly show the IEDs laid across significant portions of the bridge, underscoring the scale of the threat. Military authorities have since intensified surveillance in the area, with further clearance operations ongoing to ensure the safety of commuters and residents.

A military source noted that the swift intervention by the troops not only prevented a possible mass casualty event but also secured a critical supply and travel route frequently targeted by insurgents in the region.

The recovery comes amid a recent surge in the use of IEDs by terrorist groups in Borno, with security experts warning of evolving tactics by insurgents to disrupt military and civilian movement. The military has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as efforts to clear the area continue.
