MAIDUGURI, Nigeria — Frontline troops of Operation Hadin Kai have dealt severe blows to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) networks in Borno State following a string of successful operations between June 16 and June 19, 2026.

The military campaigns resulted in the safe detonation of roadside bombs, the recovery of significant combat hardware, and the arrest of suspected high-profile logistics suppliers channelling fuel and essential commodities to terrorist hideouts.

Bomb Squad Thwacks IED Threat on Major Highway

The operations kicked off on June 16, 2026, when residents tipped off security forces about hidden explosives. Acting on this vital intelligence, the 135 Special Forces Battalion’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team, backed by a Quick Reaction Force (QRF), executed a tactical fighting patrol along the critical Biu–Buratai Road.

Troops successfully located and professionally detonated five planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) cylinders. The high-stakes clearance operation was executed without a single military or civilian casualty, restoring safe passage to the commercial transport route.

Fierce Firefight Repels 60-Motorcycle Insurgent Convoy

On June 17, 2026, tactical units faced a massive hostile formation along the Miyanti–Ngoshe axis. Troops from the 153 Task Force Battalion were withdrawing from a picketing duty in Kirawa when they crossed paths with an unconfirmed number of heavily armed terrorists riding on approximately 60 motorcycles.

The insurgents attempted an ambush, opening fire on the military convoy. However, the soldiers retaliated with superior, sustained firepower, forcing the entire armada of terrorists to retreat in chaotic disarray toward the Miyanti forest axis.

While exact insurgent casualties are still being verified due to the thick terrain, a sweeping search of the battlefield yielded a major haul of logistics and hardware left behind by the fleeing fighters:

  • 817 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
  • Three abandoned motorcycles
  • Two solar panels
  • 102 sachets of salt (often used for food preservation in remote camps)
  • Multiple motorcycle tyres, inner tubes, and vital mechanical spare parts

The momentum peaked on June 19, 2026, when intelligence units uncovered a clandestine smuggling ring providing essential provisions to the insurgents. Armed with precise data, troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison set up an intensive stop-and-search checkpoint.

During the screening, soldiers intercepted a cyan-coloured Volkswagen vehicle bearing the registration number FGF-357-AG. The vehicle was packed with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS/Petrol) and miscellaneous relief materials destined for deep-forest terrorist camps.

Two suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics operatives were arrested on the spot:

  • Mohammed Bukar (popularly known as “Dege”), aged 35, identified as the main supplier.
  • Iliyasu Abdullahi, aged 26, identified as Bukar’s apprentice.

Both suspects have been taken into custody and are undergoing rigorous interrogation to map out wider supply chains across the region.

Heightened Offensive Operations

Confirming the string of victories in a statement issued from the Maiduguri Headquarters on June 20, 2026, Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, reiterated the military’s firm stance.

Goni stressed that the armed forces remain relentlessly committed to denying the remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP any freedom of action. He praised communities for stepping up with reliable intel and urged the public to keep feeding security agencies with timely data to bring a definitive end to the counter-terrorism war.
