The fuel scarcity situation in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, has reached a critical point, with hundreds of residents now resorting to trekking due to the worsening petrol supply crisis.
Many vehicles were off the roads in the city, and taxi cabs were seen queuing at the few filling stations still selling petrol.
However, most filling stations have shut their gates to motorists, citing a lack of products.
Valid View Network reports indicate that the few filling stations that are still open for a limited number of hours are selling petrol at exorbitant prices, ranging from N750 to N900 per litre.

Despite the inflated pump price, motorists spend hours in long queues, with filling stations giving preference to customers with kegs who pay tips of about N1,000 each.
These filling stations often shut their gates after selling for only one or two hours, leaving motorists who have waited in queues for more than ten hours with no choice but to abandon their vehicles.
Public transport operators, including taxi cabs and commercial motorcycles, have taken advantage of the petrol shortage by significantly increasing their fares.
For instance, taxi cabs are charging N1,000 fare from Oke Ilewo and Ibara to Asero, and N500 from Leme to Asero. Okada riders have also increased their fare by more than 500 per cent, forcing people to either trek to their destinations or stay at home.
