The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that an operative of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s security outfit, Agunechemba (Operation Udo Ga-Achi), fatally shot a woman, Chiamaka Okeke, on Tuesday evening at Ibeto Junction in Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA. The incident occurred when the security convoy was caught in a traffic gridlock and the operatives began firing gunshots in an attempt to clear the road, during which Chiamaka was struck and later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that the command is working closely with the leadership of Agunechemba to identify the patrol vehicles and the operative responsible. Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu has called for calm and assured the public that investigations are ongoing and justice will be served. A special police team has been set up to monitor the activities of Agunechemba operatives to prevent future incidents.
This tragic event has sparked public outrage, with residents demanding accountability and better control of armed security operatives operating in civilian areas. The police have pledged to provide updates as investigations progress.
