GBOKO, NIGERIA – The Tor Tiv and Chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs and Traditional Council, His Royal Majesty, Professor James Ortese Ayatse, CFR, has pledged his total support to the ongoing battle against economic and financial crimes in the country.
The paramount ruler made this commitment while hosting the Acting Zonal Director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of EFCC (ACE I) Effa Imoh Okim, at his palace in Gboko, Benue State.
Traditional Institutions to Anchor Anti-Graft Messages
While acknowledging the commission’s strides in curbing financial crimes, Professor Ayatse emphasized the vital role traditional rulers play in shaping community values.
”I will not relent in supporting the EFCC in stamping out corruption in Nigeria,” the Tor Tiv declared, reinforcing his commitment to institutional transparency and regional integrity.
Earlier in the visit, ACE I Effa Imoh Okim expressed gratitude to the royal father for his blessing and counsel. The EFCC chief urged the monarch to deepen the partnership between the commission and the traditional council, specifically by using his influential platform to spread grassroots anti-corruption messages.
Grassroots Compliance: SCUML Trains Taraba NOA Officers
In a concurrent effort to strengthen regional compliance with financial regulations, the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) conducted an intensive, one-day capacity-building workshop in neighboring Taraba State.
The training session, held at the Medical and Health Workers Union Hall in Jalingo, brought together Community Orientation and Mobilization Officers from the National Orientation Agency (NOA) representing all 17 local government areas across the state.
The workshop focused on equipping NOA field officers with the tools needed to boost citizen awareness and strictly enforce compliance with the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.
By training these orientation officers, SCUML aims to establish a stronger grassroots defense against illicit financial flows, ensuring local economies remain protected from the vulnerabilities of financial crime.
