Tinubu Reverses NTA Shake-Up, Reinstates Salihu Dembos and Ayo Adewuyi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reversed the recent management overhaul at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), reinstating Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General and Mr. Ayo Adewuyi as the Executive Director of News. The recall restores the two executives to their original positions to complete their respective tenures, affirming a strategic move to ensure stability and continuity within the broadcaster.

Dembos, who was initially appointed by President Tinubu in October 2023, had briefly stepped aside following a controversial change in leadership at the agency. However, the President’s directive now mandates his return to finish his three-year term as Director-General. Similarly, Adewuyi, appointed in 2024, is to continue his service as Executive Director of News until 2027.

This presidential directive nullifies fresh appointments that had recently caused disruption within the NTA. These include the appointments of a new Director-General, a new Executive Director of News, an Executive Director of Marketing, and a Managing Director for NTA Enterprises.

The announcement was made in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to maintaining effective leadership and operational stability in the country’s largest television network.

The decision to reverse the earlier shake-up comes less than a month after the new team led by Rotimi Pedro as Director-General was appointed, highlighting the administration’s responsiveness to the organizational dynamics within the NTA.

President Tinubu’s intervention underscores the importance of continuity in the management of state-owned media, which plays a crucial role in national communication and public information dissemination.

The NTA leadership reorganization saga therefore ends with a reaffirmation of confidence in the proven leadership of Dembos and Adewuyi, signaling a return to steadier governance at the broadcaster.
